Queen. I think it is part of the education every child should get. You don’t have to love it, but you should have heard some songs at least once. I have a very weird music style for my age (20). I love Queen, Abba, Micheal Jackson etc. I met some people my age who never heard of these names. (impossible, right?)
But I think everybody agrees, We will Rock You and Bohemian Rhapsody are really good songs. That is why I was so happy when I heard this movie was coming.
Most biography movies are not that good. But because most of the band is still alive and there are old videos of them, this is actually a pretty good movie. Well, Pretty good? I almost cried. And I never cry for a movie.
Freddie does not care about standards and belonging to a group. He is crazy and likes to show it. He meets a group that does not want him, until he sung a bit for him.
The band has to come up with new songs and they go to a farm. Ready to write a song. After they fail and only came up with a few parts of songs instead of a hit, they make Bohemian Rhapsody. One of their biggest songs.
We follow the band to see how they became so big and successful. But Freddie caused the band to break up by going solo. This ruined the band, but also their friendship.
Freddie discovers that he has AIDS and wants to do everything he can to enjoy the rest of his life. He gets the band back together just in time for Live Aid. One of the greatest performances in the history of Rock music.
John Reid: So, tell me. What makes Queen any different from all of the other wannabe rockstars I meet?
Freddie Mercury: Tell you what it is, Mr. Reid. Now we’re four misfits who don’t belong together, we’re playing for the other misfits. They’re the outcasts, right at the back of the room. We’re pretty sure they don’t belong either. We belong to them.
Freddie Mercury had some very good comebacks. He was so confident and weird that I would go to the movie again, just to hear his comebacks.
Update 28/02/2019: I actually watched the movie 4 times now…
Wow. Just Wow. I never cry for movies, but man I was close to crying now. It is such a deep and wonderful story. You follow some misfits instead of the prettiest and most popular people.
I did not know what to expect when I went to see the movie, but I was positively surprised. Because most of the band is still alive, the story will get as real as it gets. They even wear clothes from that time!
The scene of Live Aid is also amazing. They combined the movie with the videos from Live Aid. So when it is zoomed out, you actually see Freddie Mercury perform, and when they zoom in, it is Rami Malek.
So please go watch this movie! Even when you don’t know or like Queen. It will open your eyes.
