A Court of Thorns and Roses
Feyre and her family lost everything. They were rich and no worries, but now they Feyre has to hunt and kill to survive. During the long winter months, she spots a deer being pursued by a wolf. She needs this deer, so she has to kill the wolf.
It turned out the wolf was a faerie. And there is a price if it comes to killing a faerie. A life for a life. Her captor gives her a choice. Give her life or be locked in a magical kingdom forever.
Her captor always wears a jeweled mask, yet it is hiding way more than his green eyes would suggest. She discovers the faerie lands are more dangerous than she thought and has to fight to break a curse. If she doesn’t succeed, she will lose him forever.
Feyre: Feyre is a strong woman, who is only strong because she had to be. She made sure her family was taken care of in difficult times and does everything for them. After being taken to the faerie lands, she gets to know herself and what she has to do to survive. Even if it means killing.
Tamlin: The captor. He takes Feyre to his castle and gives her everything she needs, as long as she keeps her nose out of his business. Tamlin falls in love and tries to hide it. Everything that has to be done to keep his Spring Court safe, he will do.
Lucien: A close friend of Tamlin. After a lot happened in his own Autumn Court, he left to live with Tamlin in the Spring Court. He builds a friendship with Feyre and he teaches her stuff, Tamlin does not want her to know. He cares about Feyre and is extremely loyal to Tamlin.
Rysand: The most powerful High Lord in history and the ruler of the Night Court. He helps her during her trials and fought for her life. He is known as the bad guy and Amarantha’s whore. Rysand is loyal to Amarantha.
Amarantha: She is the bad guy. The former general of Hybern who claimed herself as the High Queen of Prythian. She became like this after a mortal named Jurian brutally killed her little sister Clynthia. She killed Jurian and kept his eye and finger. His life force embedded in the body parts.
This is also a book I had to read from my sister, the walking library. I just finished the Throne of Glass series and was ready for a new book.
After reading Throne of Glass, I really like the writing style from Sarah J. Maas. So after a recommendation from my sister and reading Throne of Glass, I had to read A Court of Thorns and Roses.
I like the story, but I had to get into it. Because I started 10 minutes after reading ‘Kingdom of Ash’, I had to switch characters and races.
The writing is like other books from Sarah J. Maas very good and intriguing. I could not lay the book down. I had to read this chapter and also the next and the one after that. Which ended in finishing the book in one time. Skipping a night of sleep to read about life-threatening trials.
The action – love radius is very good. Sometimes an action/thriller book ends up with more love scenes than action scenes. The action and threats are the center of the book and the love stories are a nice touch.
This is for sure a book you would like if you like Throne of Glass.
