Grease is my all time favorite movie. I watched it at least 150 times and then I am not exaggerating. I discovered the movie when I was 10 and I watch it at least 12 times a year. Sometimes I even watch it 3 times a week.
But I have to say that I am slowly getting a new favorite. Rock of Ages is also just an amazing movie that I can watch over and over again!
When I am cooking or sick, this is the first movie I watch if I am not watching a series. The music is part of my Sing Along Spotify list and I know every word.
Sandy Olson gets a holiday love with Danny Zuko. They say goodbye. On the first day of school, they find out that they go to the same school now.
Danny is the leader of the T-bags, a group of badass leather jacket-wearing greasers, while Sandy hangs out with the Pink Ladies, a group of pink-wearing girls led by Rizzo.
When they clash at the pep rally, Danny is not the Danny Sandy fell in love with. They both struggle with this. They like each other but want to stay true to themselves.
Sandy toughens up a bit and Danny learns to soften up a bit. Sandy even tries to smoke and drink, once.
In the meantime, Rizzo discovers she is pregnant, Kentucky races with their self made car. What else can go wrong?
Favorite quotes + songs
For me, this is a hard one. I love the movie so much, that I love all the songs and quotes. But here are my favorites, I think.
Danny Zuko: You can’t just walk out of a drive-in.
Rizzo: I’ve got so many hickeys people will think I’m a leper.
Kenickie: Relax. A hickey from Kenickie is like a Hallmark card, when you only care enough to send the very best!
Rizzo: You pig!
Kenickie: Oh, I love it when you talk dirty!
My favorite song must be ‘Greased Lightning’. It is just so catchy.
Greasy is one of the best sing-alongs and feel good movies in my opinion. The story is predictable and not the best, but the actors and songs surely make up for it. I also love the fifties till the eighties, so that gets extra points.
I do not get some characters and how they behave. Like Sandy? Why would you change yourself if Danny clearly feels ashamed to tell the truth to his friends?
Or Danny. Why would you act like you never saw the girl even though you just sang a song about her?
So many things I do not get, but even though all those things, I still love the movie. Next to this gem, I also love these other musical movies!
