You want a nice easy book to just enjoy? With the Selection, you will find exactly that. I do have to warn though. You will not be able to put it down.

The Selection:

The selection is the way to find a new princess. It happened this way before, so it also has to happen like this now. America Singer joins the raffle because her boyfriend asks for it. She does not want this. She loves Aspen.

But then she is selected to move to the castle and fight for the crown. All she has to do for this is make the gorgeous but boring Prince Maxon fall in love with her.

She meets the Prince the night before she was supposed to and actually kicks him. But after a while, she starts doubting about all her plans and realizes that there are threats to the country nobody tells them.

The characters:

America: A pretty 17-year old that loves someone she is not allowed to love. She is to go to the palace and the only reason she goes is for the money. All she wants to do is take care of her family. America is different than the other selected and this does not help.

Maxon: Never liked someone or even went on a date and now he has to date 35 women at once. From the first time he met America, he liked here. She was a great friend, who saw more than just the crown. He is not used to being around girls this much and does not always know how to handle

Marlee: Another selected who became America’s friend pretty soon. The country loves her because she is sweet and kind. She loses interest in Maxon pretty fast but wants to stay in the Selection for an unknown reason.

Aspen: The secret boyfriend of America. They have been dating for two years and are saving to get married. He is a 6 and feels bad for making America a six if they get married. He is the reason America applies for the selection.

May:  The little sister of America. She loves the prince and keeps asking questions. She does not care what happens as long as she gets the latest gossip.

My opinion:

I was not sure if I would like this series. Romantic books are not really my thing. But as I just finished the series Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses, I did not feel like reading another fantasy series.

It was time for something else in between and these books were on my e-reader. So I decided to try it. So, it is not my favorite book, but it was pretty fun to read.

The story is original and fun, but with something serious in there. The way the girls behave with each other is really realistic. It may not the best story, but it is nice to read once.

As the book is not that long, I was done in a few hours. I actually finished the whole series in just 3 days. What else to do when you are sick?

I really liked the pace of the story. It is not that fast, but it is also not 600 pages long with nothing happening.

So if you like to read something nice in between two heavy series, this is the one for you.
